Immigration > Visiting the UK

If you are seeking to vist the United Kingdom then you have to show that you:

  • are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor; and
  • intend to leave the United Kingdom at the end of the visit; and
  • do not intend to take employment in the United Kingdom; and
  • do not intend to produce goods or provide services within the United Kingdom, including the selling of goods or services direct to members of the public; and
  • do not intend to undertake a course of study; and
  • will maintain and accommodate yourself and your dependants, if any, adequately out of resources available to you without recourse to public funds or taking employment; or will, with any dependants, be maintained and accommodated adequately by your relatives or friends; and
  • can meet the cost of the return or onward journey.
Although all the requirements stated above must be met, the main points on which the immigration officer needs to be satisfied are:
  • that you are giving a true account of what you intend to do during your stay in the United Kingdom and the length of time you will stay; and
  • that, during your stay, you do not intend to undertake any activity which is not allowed by the Rules relating to visitors; and
  • that there are sufficient funds available to finance your stay (and that of any dependants) and your onward or return journey.

The maximum period of stay is six months. It means that, for instance, if you are issued with two-year visit visa then you have to leave the United Kingdom before the expiry of six months period but having exit the United Kingdom you can enter the United Kingdom without re-applying for a visit so long as the duration of two-year is not expired.
